Dear readers,
It’s that time of year again when clients are asking me to outfit them for ski season, both on and off piste. For the most part, I’ve been following the advice I wrote in last year’s guide to finding (relatively) affordable and stylish skiwear:
But this year, I’m also hoping to point more of them (and you!) towards the secondhand market.
Hands up if you’ve ever bought, sold or exchanged sports equipment from the beloved institution, Play It Again Sports? PIA has been around since 1983, and it was where I exchanged my figure skates year-after-year, dipping into the circular economy until my feet stopped growing. As for ski equipment for my growing family, we participate in a yearly trade-in program with a local ski shop. And, I’m guessing many of you participate in informal Buy Nothing or Buy/Sell groups with family and friends, passing down hockey equipment (OMG, the smell) and the like.
So, if we’re doing it for sporting equipment, why not also do it for the ski wear itself? I spent the last two days pouring through resale sites like eBay, TRR and Vestiaire and I’m happy to report that there’s a wealth of stylish and functional ski wear on the resale market, including plenty that are NWT, NWOT and/or barely used.
Today, I’ll be sharing with you some of the ski jackets, ski pants and snow boots that I’ve found. But, even if you don’t find exactly what you’re looking for in this newsletter, the point remains: consider the secondhand market for your ski wear needs. It could be resale shops and websites, but also normalize asking family and friends and fostering a community of sharing amongst yourselves!
