The Jean Silhouette I’m Feeling Right Now
Oddly, no one asked me about jeans, but too bad, I’m sharing my thoughts about them anyway! In an effort to keep pushing my pant boundaries, I’ve been eyeing this cut lately:
What are its characteristics?
A true straight leg. Not slim, wide, barrelled, or tapered. Instead of cinching at the natural waist or fitting more snug through the hips and thighs, it’s equally relaxed all the way from waist to hem.
Its relaxed cut gives it an extra slouch, but since the legs aren’t overly wide, there’s not too much extra fabric.
It’s full-length and puddles a touch, but again, because the legs aren’t too wide, your shoes don’t get buried in them.
Rises vary from low to high.
The thought of a low rise, full-length pant would normally make me shudder, but I’m eager to try this shape out because of how (surprisingly) good I feel in this pair of Isabel Marants:
The jeans are circa 2015 when all pants were low and tight, so they sit like this because I’m wearing two sizes up. The styles I’ve shared above are just a slightly slouchier, full-length version of them. If you find they’re not relaxed enough, don’t be afraid to size up, per Petya K. Grady’s recent experience:
I ordered multiple sizes of the Gap and Everlane jeans, and ended up keeping the larger size on both. I had to talk myself into it! The smaller sizes “fit,” but the larger sizes felt more comfortable. I’m really glad I did because they fall more nicely. I’m glad that I didn’t let vanity take over. I told myself, let’s be rational about this, it’s just a size, not an evaluation of my character.
Not the same cut, but in my search, I came across a few pairs that I also loved, so I’m sharing them here! Citizens of Humanity Baretta, Saint Laurent straight jeans and Kallmeyer jeans with the slightest of flare (I’d size up on these too).
