051/ A Sock-Shoe Amuse-Bouche
19 easy looks you can implement today for this transition season
Oh, hi!
*waves*
This newsletter is timely on a couple of fronts. First, that in our post-isolation world, many of you (like me) purged a lot of your heels and invested in more comfortable (read: flatter) footwear.
With customer demand high, it’s not surprising that the fashion cycle has leaned hard into flatter footwear, and ballerinas (of all things!) are among the It pieces of the season (see: Alaia’s crystal mesh flats, MiuMiu’s also crystal mesh flats, The Row red mesh sock flat).
Second, temperatures are slowly but surely dropping. Some of your buys (like loafers) are solidly four-season, while others (like the aforementioned airy ballerinas with literal holes in them, as well as mules and slingbacks) need help bringing into fall.
Enter, Stage Right: the Sock!
Socks are a quick and affordable styling tool to shake up the balance of an outfit while keeping our feet warm. And since I’m all about bringing versatility to your wardrobes, I spent the day adding socks to my shoes to create 19 easy looks you can implement for this transition season.
I say “easy” because most of the socks I’m using aren’t the perfect sock I’ve picked up specifically for the sock-shoe look. Rather, they’re socks lying around that I’ve either: 1) had for years, 2) belong to my husband, or 3) picked up in the last year from accessible brands such as Uniqlo. And because this is a sock-shoe story, the clothes themselves are mostly “minimal effort” per my definition here.
It’s an “amuse-bouche” because these looks are for transition season, meaning the sock-shoe season has only just begun! I’ll be coming up with plenty more options as the weather turns colder.
