Hello, friends!
Although IRL I regularly dress clients in formal corporate workwear, I’ve shied away from posting about it on here. In fact, when I started brainstorming this article, I had a different angle in mind, predicated on the “fact” that I didn’t have enough clothes to make full corporate looks.
Upon examination, this notion is PREPOSTEROUS.
I assumed this to be true because when I go through my weekly outfit summaries, I don’t have (m)any personal examples of dressing in “business formal”. But, in the process of putting this story together, I realized it’s simply because I’ve never had to push my wardrobe in that direction. I don’t need to “dress corporate” for work anymore (nor in other areas of my life), so I don’t. Somewhere in my mind, I also thought that I didn’t have the clothes because I gave away said clothes 12 years ago when I left law.
Again, preposterous.
In fact, this is the kind of deeply ingrained idea that I help my clients undo so they can move towards a more versatile, integrated wardrobe:
“I wouldn’t wear this to the office”
“I would never have thought to put x and y together”
Little did I know, I had been holding onto a version of it, too.
Once I got into the flow, it was clear that I could make many corporate outfits with my existing wardrobe. Since I’m not usually wearing my clothes in these specific combinations, I’ve put my corporate looks side-by-side with outfits I’ve worn in the past, so you can see an integrated wardrobe flexing its muscles.
