067/ What I'm Wearing: Week 46 (& #ICYMI no. 2)
Mostly outerwear + strappy shoes + sequin skirts + consignment news
What I’m Wearing is a series where I share all of the outfits I’ve worn over a given week (or two), along with styling notes, links and related thoughts. If you see an outfit you like on my Instagram, you’ll find it here.
#ICYMI is a mishmash of things I’ve mentioned in my Instagram stories that I expand on and immortalize in my Substack.
What I’m Wearing
I figured I would lump this week’s WIW and #ICYMI into one newsletter because — as it turns out — they’re thematically related.
It’s an outerwear-heavy issue, starting with this oversized H&M bomber jacket I’ve been wearing all week.
I tried on S, M and L, and decided on the large because it was long enough to go over my hips. I’m not saying this is the “right” way to wear the bomber, only that the longer length felt good on me in the case of this particular jacket. In contrast, my relaxed Valentino tweed bomber is TTS and sits above my hips, yet I love it too!
If you’re interested in this jacket, the size you choose will depend on a few factors. For reference, I’m 5’6” with a very long torso and shorter legs/low hanging bum.
If I:
had a shorter torso/longer legs, or
preferred a shorter jacket, or
was even an inch or two shorter in height,
S and M are sufficiently oversized in the body, and would have worked.

Beaufille’s Pelli Turtleneck
Continuing on the theme of roomy grey outerwear(ish), during one of my try-ons at VSP Consignment, many of you loved this half-zip, neoprene turtleneck by Beaufille.
On the same day, I also posted one I found on Poshmark, and it sold out quickly. But guess what? I found another one that was just listed on Nov. 9!
Also, I was pleasantly surprised by the marigold Proenza Schouler satin kitten heel sandals I’m wearing here. I admit I raise an eyebrow if a store can’t seem to move any units of a product even when it’s 60% off (as is the case at the Bay right now), but I honestly really liked them? The shape feels modern, the heel isn’t too high, the padding makes them more comfortable, and they’re a neutral, non-colour colour that perks up an outfit without overpowering it. *shrug*
Big, Loose Overcoats
More outerwear talk via this Xweet by menswear writer Derek Guy:
If you’ve been reading In Moda Veritas for a while, you know Derek’s sentiments get a hard agree from me. And not just for men, but for women too!
This seems like a relevant time to mention that, other than whilst skiing or rolling around in the snow with my kids, I haven’t worn a puffer or parka for the last two winters. Controversial opinion, but I haven’t found one yet and thought, “Wow, that’s so stylish, I want to wear that.” Same goes for snow boots. They’re primarily functional pieces.
Wearing cozy layers topped off by long, “roomy, loose overcoats” in natural fibres have kept me sufficiently warm, and bonus: I feel like I’m being hugged by a big, warm, comforting blanket.
My go-tos:
this Burberry mens 100% wool duffle coat (mens, size XL) I found at VSP. Although it retails for about C$2,500, given the coat’s long history, you can find many on the resale market for a few hundred dollars (like I did), e.g. in black and camel.
Max Mara’s teddy coat, which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. Pro tip: If you want this coat and have the opportunity, try getting it at a Schengen area duty free. I bought mine at the Frankfurt airport for US$1700 — which I appreciate is a heck of an investment for a coat, while at the same time being less than half of the retail price, and also less than what it’s usually sold for on the resale market. I won’t link them here, but I do see these coats on resale sites for around US$750/C$1,000, but caveat emptor!
The Raey coat that needs no introduction at this point, and the COS counterpart which served me well and has found a new, loving home.
Speaking of Raey, they do “roomy, loose overcoats” so well — for example, this oversized belted funnel-neck blanket coat, and this exaggerated shoulder wool cocoon coat.
For those of you who don’t experience super cold winters: you may remember I tried on this mens Canada Goose x Union Navy Touissaint Parka at VSP (below left, sold out), which stood out to me because I’ve been eyeing a similar one by Raey. I love the shape of it.
Consignment Report
1132 Consignment is a two-year-old, Toronto-based shop with a selection that skews towards statement and party wear. I was at 1132 last week and — good news — they’re finally launching a website! Which means, you can find pieces like this from wherever you are in the world….
The Cat’s Meow is another local consignor which I regularly visit, and they launched their website last week (finally, after 17 years in business!). The shop leans toward vintage and collectible pieces from luxury and heritage brands.
Mine & Yours expanded into Toronto a few months ago, from their home base of Vancouver, where they’ve been since 2013. I was invited to peep their Black Friday offerings, where you can expect discounts on new arrivals, and racks of up to 90% off on older merchandise.
I’ve been talking about Canadian consignment and vintage shops, but I would be remiss to not mention my friend Tiia from
, who owns Pieni Sydän, a vintage shop in Helsinki, Finland! I was thrilled when Tiia finally gave her readers a glimpse of some of her recent hand-picked favourites (have a peek!).Painting The Town Red
It’s still sold out. BUT, people have been telling me that one-off pieces have been coming back in stock, so sign-up to receive notifications. I can’t find the skirt when I search the website, but I’ve been able to access the product page through links in my DMs for the US and UK sites. It’s 30% off right now.
My go-to black Neous Tanev sandals that I’m wearing here are back-in-stock at SSENSE, and currently on private sale for 33% off. And if you’re so inclined, I posted about a Mango dupe I spotted recently which are on sale for US$40.
That’s it for today! Wishing you a wonderful week.
Love and gratitude,
Irene
What size did you take in the red skirt? Website says it runs small. Love your newsletter.
Great edition Irene!! Looking fabulous as always and so many great tips😍. I don’t often wear my puffer anymore either after getting your COS coat last year (how lovely that yours found a new home!). In fact, when I put my puffer on a few days ago I felt the sleeves were so tight compared to the looseness of my COS coat, and ability to layer and still feel cozy. Let’s see if that still holds true on my morning commute/walk (roughly 10 min) to Lawrence station in February 😀. Happy weekend all ❤️
