Loving the War and Peace readalong over here! I am actually reading it every second day or so since some of the chapters are too short to get into the flow. Loving the Substack weekly summaries and how much the quirks of human nature persists across the centuries

I feel the same! It’s a long read, and the daily and weekly threads are not only fun to read in and of themselves but keep me motivated to keep reading! I also read about 2x a week, and 3-4 chapters at a time for the same reasons!

loving it as well! being rather disciplined about one chapter a day and finding it like a meditation and welcome ritual. so fun to learn from others in the chats.

I’m another reader happily repping the IMV/W&P crossover! And yes to all the rabbit holes of European history.

As a new IMV subscriber, I’ve also been reading back through your archive and have been especially intrigued by the pieces about closet editing/building a foundational wardrobe. I had been slogging through a closet edit for a few weeks but had been stuck on clearing some things out. Your discussions around that topic have really helped me think about it more clearly. Was finally able to make those last decisions today! Just wanted to say thank you and tell you I how much I appreciate your clear writing and insights. It’s been super helpful! I’m really looking forward to the next installment

Hi Susie, I really appreciate the kind words and I'm so happy that the posts have helped your process and decision-making!! Thank YOU for reading :).

Love this post!! And wanted to share that I (finally) got the Poshmark Canada app and signed up. Why did it take me so long?? I have some items to sell, good condition but if I’m not wearing them why do I keep them?

Have a great day everyone! ❤️

A whole new world, Sarah! Will you be listing that fendi dress 😂

Haha! I have a couple of shoes I’d like to sell. I’d love to share a few pics with the group and see what people think I could sell them for. Gucci furry boots and Burberry peep toe booties. I’m not sure there is a way to share the pics in this thread somehow? Irene I’ll text the pics to you if you happen to know how to add or let me know how I may do it myself 😀

I enjoyed the peace and parties more than i am liking the war bits... but pushing through!

🙈 same same. It’s reminding me of the hundreds of pages of The Hunchback of Notre Dame going into excruciating detail about the layout of Paris, which I … skipped 🙃

Curious what actually constitutes a long torso? I’m 5’9” with a strong tush. I’m resigned that my butt will always be on display, and I hate it. Really physically uncomfortable. Thongs are so freeing for undergarments, but swimsuits…no way!

Expand full comment

If it's long in absolute terms (e.g. you're really tall), or your torso length is relatively long compared to your leg length.

Here representing the In Moda Veritas/War & Peace readalong crossover audience! I signed on to Simon's Wolf Hall readalong as well - both re-reads. I'm enjoying the insightful comments and many fun rabbit holes contributed by the F&T readers. I'm a tiny bit concerned, though, about capacity to read other books since I'm spending so much time reading the voluminous daily comment posts and researching the Napoleonic Wars. I guess I'm solidly within the target demographic.

I'm so happy to have discovered your work as well, especially love the foundational series and your ebay seller finds, as a longtime ebay devotee. Wonderful insights. Thank you!

“Here representing the In Moda Veritas/War & Peace readalong crossover audience!” Is the most hilarious, unexpected sentence 😅. It is so hard to read that book and not google all of European history for the last 200 years 😅! The daily and weekly threads have been key to keeping me engaged with this book! So thankful Simon has dedicated so much time into it, what a gift for all!

Thank you for reading, @Cass, I’m so glad you’re here ☺️.

If there is one clothing item that I just hate is a swimsuit. Why? Because I haven’t yet found one for a tall woman with generous breasts that need hold 🙄 please help 🙏🏻

Im going to look into this further bc so many of us are struggling with it! If I may ask, how tall are you?

Thank you for this , i was super interested when you posted it on insta, i have recently discovered my torso is long as nary a bodysuit fits me. Just was able to snatch up the lichen toteme and im EXCITED.

Expand full comment

Yes!! Let me know how it fits when it arrives, pls?

Expand full comment

It fiiiiiits! I am so pleased. It doesnt pull up through my genitals and that is just fantastic. Also it actually just fits all over as it should which other than a sporty speedo is the first one piece to do that. Truly thank you for the suggestion! The color of my body after being hidden away this whole scottish winter is another problem 😁.

Hi Irene first of all please do tell what IS TTS? And would Dora Maar be for middle brow brands gently and lovingly used for resale? If not which one would be best? Vestiare, Poshmark, etsy, ebay? Graciaaasss 🙏🏻🍒

Expand full comment

Dora Maar has a good range of pieces, from vintage to mid range brands like to tibi to high end like Chanel. I can say the same thing about eBay, poshmark, vestiaire, the real real (not so much Etsy which leans vintage)…they all have their +s and -s and Ive found gems on them all. I think where you live matters, if you’re in the states you’re gold. If you’re in Canada, TRR and Vestiaire usually come with killer duties, so I prefer the Canadian platforms of Posh and eBay. In fact I never shop on TRR and Vestaire for myself for that reason.

Many many thanks Irene🙏🏻I live in Ft Lauderdale, Florida, north of Miami-relatively close to @heymrssolomon- I'd love to sell some good-with-little -to-no use pieces that don't fit my current 24/7 caregiving persona. But of course I'll have to DO the work: open acct, photograph, post, ship 😵‍💫

Expand full comment

Yeah, depending on how many pieces you have and their value, I have actually paid someone to put stuff on Poshmark for me! Let's say you pay someone (like a online savvy teen) $20/hr (min wage in CA) and they take a day to upload everything = $160. Of course you have to monitor your account and respond to people, but I don't mind that part!

I’ve been delving into the world of body types recently, especially torso length. It’s actually very interesting and I’m finding it a useful tool when shopping, although I don’t want to be too rigid! Is it me or does Amy and others in the Tibi World not really believe in paying attention to body types, not wanting to be labeled as s fruit etc!

Expand full comment

I use the concept of body types as just one of the tools in my toolbox when I work with clients, and I agree that you’ll get the most out of it by using as a guideline rather than a strict rule. I think talking specific about body types as fruit or any strict category has gone out of style, but at the same time Amy and Tibi often speak of “balance” and “proportion” which to me, is why I would consider body types in the first place…to pick pieces to help achieve that on one’s body.

Torso length and rise is a measurement I’m always aware of it. It makes a HUGE difference esp when buying pants, which I think is the main reason the sticking point of 95% of women is pants! Solve the pants and you’re more than half way home.

Expand full comment

You're right! Good way of looking at it. I have very broad shoulders and narrow hips, so can often look top-heavy. Broadening the hips has really helped! There seems to be a lot of information on horizontal body shapes, but less on how best to dress your torso length.

Expand full comment

I need to do a full timeline on how I’ve dressed this long torso over the years. The era of bumsters and low rise pants was the nadir 😅

Expand full comment

I’d be interested in seeing that timeline! I have a short torso, so I guess I should be doing the opposite.

Expand full comment

Hmm I'm going to put some thought into whether it's truly "opposite" or if short torsos have a different set of considerations....

Hearing your thoughts on the woes of short torso dressing would be incredible!

I’m 5’7” - and a long torso newsletter would be fantastic!

I have a few LOF and they do run on the small side. I still find their bottoms to be not as high and a little less coverage than I would like for my long torso but I am 5 foot 8. The long torso suit is a struggle!
