A two-week long challenge for you! Making the best of these fleeting weeks: prompts to dress for Stage 1 of transition season + adding a third lever to my Lever System.
I love your Stage 1 outfits Irene!! this topic goes way back for me. When I was a teenager in Toronto (in the 80s, before the wide availability of fashion shows and stylist Inspo online) my mom and I would look forward to our monthly issue of Vogue. Seeing editorial shoots featuring a strappy sandal paired with a pencil skirt and a cashmere turtleneck we would laugh, where on earth does that outfit make any sense? Then I moved to California and…about 70% of the year is Stage 1 weather! Some people miss being able to wear bundled cosy layers but I love being able to play with the entire seasonality grid. (For anyone thinking I should keep this immense good fortune to myself, we have truly terrible traffic and wildly insufficient health insurance!)
This is hilarious!! And Kelly was mentioning the same thing above, too. Hmm….i might have to do a straight up outfit post for SoCal readers. Also, I would never have schadenfreude for anyone for insufficient healthcare 😭.
I LIVE to dress in outfits like these. Transition season all year long please! When I scrolled and got to that preppy blazer over sport shorts and loafers, I thought: This woman is singing my song.
Love this post. I was just lamenting the beautiful autumn temptations (ex: a wool houndstooth blazer) that aren’t for me, as LA temps can hover in the 90s in September and the 80s in October.
Sounds like from the LA peeps that it’s still possible? Perhaps as a later piece for indoors over an otherwise summer outfit? Sort of like I’m wearing the suede blazer?
The way that you show how the outfits do or do not work based on the Seasonality lever is brilliant! As you mentioned, I have many times seen the crazy Pinterest outfits (which my friends say work great in LA) and wondered how I would wear them. Without the direction of the Seasonality of fabric, I would likely approach this all wrong so THANK YOU.
PS- I LOVE the striped crew socks. I bought my daughter a variety pack of these in different colors and they are an OUTFIT MAKER!
This is so fun Irene!! I'm traveling now so probably won't participate in the challenge. Who knows, maybe I can pull something out of my very small suitcase.
I live in Berkeley, CA and I think the climate here lends itself well to this kind of layering. I often find myself wearing a long jacket and sandals and it baffles me because I never did this on the east coast. However I’m going to British Columbia tomorrow where it’s 30 degrees so I won’t be doing much layering. I’ll try to follow along if it cools down there.

P.S. In fact, I'm packing for a weekend trip to Nantucket right now. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
Woo!!! I’ll be doing the same in NY this weekend :). Where are you based?
I'm in Bridgehampton! Please let me know if you ever do any Hampton events or visits, would love to support.

A happy accident I found in my sock drawer! 😘😘😘
Looking forward to doing this but with as others hemisphere twist.. mostly winter with a neutral and summer twist!
I wrote about this in spring! Ankles out at first sign of life, then gradually freeing the full foot and legs. Good luck!
