Irene, I love how your outfits are relatable for me, as you live in somewhat comparable climate. If only I had those Tibi joggers, I would go ahead and recreate Example #3 tomorrow. And applying a new 'system' to the way I put my outfits together and where I can look for inspiration is so valuable. I love systems and methodologies that can help me squeeze more out of what I already have, without sacrificing on the look or how the clothes make me feel. Thank you.
I love this and it’s so much better to make tweaks then start with the clean slate and tons of decisions. Whether you’re looking back on outfit from years before or just changing something for an event later in the day.
Irene: so much of styling seems to be layering. But as a perimenopausal hot flashing woman, I can’t imagine wearing more than one layer of fabric for long. And I also can’t do belts because of the menopot. Would love to hear your thoughts sometime on styling midlife women :)
Hi Gwen! What is the outdoor temperature where you live right now? So there are two ways to go about this. First is analogous to the advice I give re summer wear, which is when you’re wearing fewer pieces, each has to make a bigger impact. Shape of the garment is probably the biggest factor, as well as texture, colour, etc… Secondly, depending on where you are you could still layer, but with lighter pieces, e.g. a light tee under a cotton dress shirt.
About the “menopot” (you need to TM that), if you can’t get the “slim” from a belted waist, you just need to get it from somewhere else so it’s about redistributing the proportions of your outfit.
Thank you! I live in Canada and it’s winter right now. I work indoors in an office, so have to adjust to thermostat wars. Some days in January I am wearing trousers and a sleeveless blouse.
Incredible outfits as ALWAYS! always love your perfectly clear and helpful way of writing, clarifying for me stuff I do but don’t realize/understand - which then makes it so much easier to try it intentionally on those mornings my brain just ISN’T having it and I’m running late and still can’t decide what to wear lol! Also wow, the hair is looking SOOO chic, I am so tempted to cut mine just looking at these pics 👀👀👀
This particular one?? There are soooooo many nice ones on eBay etc (I linked to some in the caption). I heard that the Calders are coming back in stock within a month.
I LOVED example # 1 on the left as well as Example #2 on the left with the weird sweater. Thought at first it was tied around your waist. In gral I really like how you finish and style everything together.
Little tweaks = Big results.......still loving that Proenza Schouler sweater too!!! xxs
This! Exactly! I even loved the tweak of pushing the sleeves of the jacket up to reveal more of the blue turtleneck: such impact!
Yeah, I just did it in a change room because I had so much stuff around me and was like, hey, I like this better!
I'm a fan! Something to think about ;).

Especially these days....IYKYK. Shortcuts definitely welcome!

Appreciate this so much, especially some tweaks due to the winter weather!
Yes! I find it hard to get motivated in the deep freeze of winter!
