Hello! I have been following you on instagram for sometime now. Looking forward to hearing more on your experience and expertise on style. I notice the Zara items you have. I have been a zara shopper, less so in recent years perhaps as I discover different brands. Lately I struggle a lot with zara=fast fashion thoughts. I do not want to be a part of fast fashion, trying to buy things second hand or invest in pieces whenever I can. However can’t afford to upgrade everything either. How do you approach your purchases from brands such as zara? Curious to hear your thoughts! Thanks in advance. Zeynep (my 1st post of this comment didn’t work, so hopefully you are not getting this long comment twice :) )
Hello Zeynep, thank you so much for subscribing :).
I think most people can relate to your feelings about fast fashion. For me, I approach fast fashion brands as I would approach any purchase (in clothes and beyond, e.g. homeware, etc...) which is that I don't treat is a short-term purchase, but buy with the objective of wearing it for a long time. At Zara/H&M, there is a wide range of quality from poor to decent. I look for the decently constructed pieces, keeping an eye out for natural materials like 100% cotton/wool, leather, etc... Almost all of the pieces I wear from Zara are 100% natural fibres. I'm a fan of their 100% cotton jeans. They're modern in shape at an accessible price point, and don't lose their shape the way their stretch jeans do. I'll never buy anything that looks like it's going to fall apart quickly, or cheap looking fabrics that don't feel good on my skin (like they're "satins" and acrylic knitwear, for example). I hope this helps?
First of all, thanks for responding! Second, thank you for direction on the fabrics. Yes, some of their items or poor quality (or most now, I think their quality degraded significantly since I first met the brand ~25 years ago in Europe) I am in a phase now that quality is over trend. But sometimes temptation teases me :) definitely trying to be more mindful and will definitely pay more attention to the fabrics. I still wear a pair of zara jeans I purchased 15-20 years ago.
Yes, they've been sold out for...wait for it...for years! I just wanted to link to something so you could get a close up. They pop up from time to time on the resale sites, so keep an eye out!
I appreciate the mix of high-low-consignment that you use. This must take a lot of practice and patience to know what to look for and what will integrate well into your closet.
I appreciate your perspective. And I think you nailed it, it takes time to learn how to choose the right pieces and have the discipline to pass on the almost, but not quite right, pieces. I'm trying to pass on what knowledge I have here :).

I coveted those Balenciaga pumps since I first saw you where them over the holidays! The sSense link for them is sold out :(
