I needed to comment even before reading everything, but this particular Articles of Insterest series of episodes were F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C. Avery Trufelman is not credited enough for all the research and work involved. I am amazed she isn't more recommend (I know BOF made her part of their list, but still).
I read the Official Preppy Handbook, and in my work life I did an updated version for Sperry :-) I just got new chinos too! You make me want to break them out! XOXO
Great outfits, and the mix of classic with your personal style. Just purchased those chinos!I’ve been meaning to ask, would you mind sharing the designer/style of your glasses?
I always find interesting how runway looks can be reproduced with our own pieces at home. It's a good way to know how to reuse pieces that might have stayed in our closet forever.
Preppy is so interesting because we have our own version in France that we call Bon Chic Bon Genre (aka BCBG). That's be so fun to read how preppy translates into other cultures because it is instantly recognizable whatever the culture, but there is always a slight twist.
Ah yes, BCBG! I’d love your thoughts on it, especially in light of your articles about how Paris style (let alone, the specific upper middle class BCBG aesthetic) is not representative of French style!
I'd need to find books about it. I know it because I grew up surrounded by it, but I haven't done extensive research on it. One thing thing I'd say it's that it very representative of the French upper-middle class and nobility. There are French brands that are known for keeping this style and they're usually not so well-known. Now quiet luxury and stealth wealth are all over fashion media, but it is in the French DNA to not show off your money and BCBG kind of belongs to that category eventhough you can tell from 50 miles away a person has money rightly because it is such a distinctive style.
As I said to Irene above, her post actually got me to pull the trigger on finally buying a pair of Bass Weejuns yesterday after spying them for months! LOL Total trip down memory lane.
Mine are Tods, but same point: I bought these over a decade ago and they look practically new and have held up so well. The leather, the sole, etc... I got tired of them for a while circa 2016 and gave them to my SIL, she got a few years of wear out of them, and now I’m wearing them again. Long way of saying, you or someone else will wear them forever!
Great post! These 'What I'm Wearing' posts are always so helpful and inspiring. And I particularly love the nod to Ivy Style...being a WASP from New England (she said more shy than not), this takes me wayyy back and I can feel my roots in loving the classics. Growing up in that general culture (though definitely more like casual LL Bean and Lands End than Brooks Brothers) makes me realize how I still gravitate towards elements of this kind of style. It's comforting. In any case, you made it current and interesting (rather than the usual preppy-snobby-stiff). And...I will admit that your post finally got me to pull the trigger on the G.H. Bass weejun loafers I've been spying for months. ;-)

Where are your chinos from!
They are Tibi but I bought a size too big to get good volume!
I didn’t even know they made them! Googled...is it the Rodney?
Nope, the Stella, it's pretty newly in chino fabric: https://tibi.com/products/chino-stella-pant-stone?variant=39814709215296¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=CjwKCAjw7c2pBhAZEiwA88pOF0frATXLQQKfiYtz0eQtsxLIIayH1rTGmaYBqvd8w_Rhm8E9VEzpUxoCPaMQAvD_BwE

Excellent newsletter! I have not read the preppy style book, but I'll look into it - trip down memory lane. Topsiders, Bass Weejuns, Polo everything.
Looks hilarious, but kind of accurate at the same time!

I would love more content on the modern levers! That's super helpful.
Let me think this through!
Thank you, I have great vintage pieces that need modernizing and I feel like well crafted guide or style formula would be a game changer.
LOVE the runway inspo shots you included. Such a nice compliment to the WIW series.
I'll try to include more in the future!
Nice!!!
